People enjoying a Mardi Gras Office Party

A close-knit crew that feels like a family is an asset to any organization. One of the simplest ways to encourage your team to form that family bond is with a well-orchestrated office party. Successful office parties can lead to better efficiency, less turnover, improved morale, and higher productivity. Employees who feel like an important part of something bigger, working toward a common goal, are better motivated than those just clocking in for a paycheck to make ends meet. Mardi Gras is a great opportunity for a corporate gathering, especially since it doesn’t have quite the religious association that Christmas or Chanukah does. Best of all, it’s a holiday centered around having fun!

Setting the Scene

Also known as Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras isn’t a holiday known for its subtlety and conservative restraint, so go all out! Get as wild with the decor as your imagination and budget will allow. Green, gold, and purple are the colors du jour. Consider pairing purple linens with a gold overlay. Rent a vintage lamppost to create that New Orleans feel. Of course, you must serve beignets, the deep-fried pastries that put the “Gras” – which means fat – in Mardi Gras. (Not having beignets at a Mardi Gras party would be like not having champagne at a New Year’s Eve party.) And, to ensure that everyone has a place to sit and that there is plenty of real estate for your platters of beignets, you may want to rent tables and chairs from a reliable party rental company.

Keep the People Entertained

No matter how fabulous the decor, or how decadent the pastries, divest yourself of any notions that people will mingle and get to know each other and have a great time on their own. You need something to generate the momentum necessary to keep the party going, or else people will stand around awkwardly, not knowing what to say or do. We recommend hosting a costume contest. You could also hire an acrobat or juggler if your budget allows. And finally, an open bar also goes a long way towards keeping the party going…as long as everyone has a way to get home safely afterward.
