You’re opening a new venture to the public, and you want to throw a fabulous grand opening that will draw in crowds and positively promote your business. Your enthusiasm may go a long way, but make sure you support all that optimism with a great plan. Follow these three tips for a successful and unique grand opening event.
Start Early with Promotions
Allow yourself plenty of time to plan and get the word out. Not only do you want to alert future customers of your grand opening, you also want to make sure the media knows about it. Think of all the ways you can get the word out: local radio, television stations, and newspapers; social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter; and postcard invites mailed to the neighboring homes. Don’t be shy! You’re going to want to blast the news to as many people as you can reach. Draw in even more crowds by planning something special to go with your event: you might consider renting a big tent, hiring a band (don’t forget the stage!), asking the mayor to make a speech, or adding kid-friendly attractions, like a big, blow-up bouncy house. The idea is to stand out and make a sensation!
Prepare for the Big Day
As the grand opening draws nearer, hone in on the details. Did you advertise? Then, advertise some more with big banners, balloons, and signs pointing the way. Did you plan smaller attractions throughout the day? Be prepared by renting chairs, tables, platforms, and whatever other supplies your event calls for. Are you giving away door prizes? Make sure you have your system worked out ahead of time. Are you serving food? Plan to have extra just in case your creative promotions worked beyond your wildest dreams!
Have Fun and Build Relationships!
Be a gracious host at your grand opening. Remember that this opening event is about awareness and building new relationships with future customers. At the event, you don’t need to be pushy with your product or service. Simply tell your guests who you are, and do everything you can to help them have a great time!
